As with all animals, the quickest, cheapest and most effective way to help lobsters is to stop eating them. Once you've done this, set an example to others, show them vege or vegan dishes, and inform them of the cruelty invovled in catching and cooking marine life. If you have already gone veggie, and you want to do more, here's some ideas to help:

Demonstrations: Sometimes pubs and restaurants have special sea food events. If you hear of one, contact SARC for leaflets etc... and hold a picket. Alternatively, hold a demo at a seafood restaurant, supermarket or stall, where you know they sell live lobsters. If you need any help, please get in touch with us and we will do all we can to help. Let us know how you get on!

Write a Letter: Never underestimate the power of the letter. If you can get a 'letter to the editor' printed in your local paper, it will reach thousands of people.

Liberate a Lobster: OK, so its illegal to walk into a shop and grab a lobster, but there might be another way. Talk to the owner of a shop or restaurant which sells lobsters, and inform them of the cruelty, and the health implications of eating lobsters. You never know - they might just let you take the lobsters with you! If you do have to release a lobster, NEVER put it into freshwater, it will kill them. Hold them gently, and support the whole body, including claws. Gently remove elastic bands with scissors. Despite their appearance, lobsters are very gentle, sensitive craetures. Never buy a lobster, as that just supports the cycle of abuse. If store owners think that there is a market for them, they will buy more lobsters, and thus increase the suffering.
